erin condren hourly life planner - my july

hi guys! i think i've decided that i'll stop making actual 'work update' posts since i've hit over a year and nothing is that interesting anymore. (unless something interesting for realz does happen, it might be separate.) and i'll combine any tidbits about my life along with this and any future life planner posts. unfortunately, in doing so that would mean that nearly all of my posts are once monthly now, since i've been irregular with other types of posts. hmmm.. que sera sera. ~Lin-chan ^.~
also, since it didn't really fit anywhere else -- song of the month: knife party boss mode. love it.

onto the pre-written part!
i wasn't really sure what to call this kind of post, because it's not a 'plan with me'. i'm not planning anything right now... i decided that it'd be easiest for me to just show you the planner spreads i had for the past month for this and future planner-related posts. and as i mentioned in my initial erin condren post, i'm not anticipating going super crazy with planner spreads. that's one of the reasons i opted for the hourly layout, aside from it being easier to keep track of meeting times. so i apologize in advance that maybe my life [planner] isn't all that interesting. but here you are, nonetheless.

so i feel like i need to preface a lot of the entries on here because not everyone knows about software development or the many different methodologies that development teams use. anyway, we're using agile which involves sprints, stand ups, and stories. in my project, sprints are two week blocks of time, and stand ups are short daily meetings that are basically status reports to let the team know your progress and any roadblocks. then, there are things called epics which are an overall desired functionality, stories are desired features for that epic, and tasks are individual things that can be done to complete a story. that being said, we had meetings called story time where we discussed the stories, asked questions, and estimate how much effort (in points) we believed would be required to complete the stories. additionally, we have sprint planning meetings at the start of each sprint to divvy out who would work on what stories. demos for basically show and tell for what work has been done, and retrospective (retro) meetings to reflect on the good and bad from the last sprint, and give suggestions for improvement.
also, any "WFH Days" are work from home days. with the things happening around here this month and our office being in close proximity to several government buildings, we were advised to stay home for two days this month. for utilities/expenses--if you're wondering, the electric bill is in my name and i'm usually the one that remembers to turn in the rent, and paul handles all of our other joint expenses.

monthly calendar spread: so, this one is kind of lame. or at least relatively speaking. it was before i bought a ton of washi tape, and i used stickers i found in target's dollar spot. also, i didn't know what to do with some of the extra payday flag stickers that came with my august - december monthly spread kits, so i put teh paul's paydays on here.
week 1so i somewhat intentionally miscounted the number of weeks in this planner (78) when I was buying all of my hydrate stickers. plannerpenny's sheets have 14 each (5x14=70). for the remaining 8, i wanted to get ahappybluetree's weekly stickers, but i caught my stickeriffic order on a 50% off sale, so instead i ordered 41 days worth (counting the sample), which is not quite enough for 8 full weeks. so i ended up using these stickers on holiday weeks where i knew i'd probably not drink as much water anyway. this one ended up being an extra, so i filled in the droplets with my relative daily intake.
week 2: for those who may not have known..i had a tire blow out on my way to my aunt's house on 4th of July. so i didn't actually make it to her house and i had to buy tires the following day... a few weeks prior to this happening, i told teh paul that the steering was funny (not to mention my last car had an egg in one of the tires too), but you know women obviously don't know anything about cars. "what are you doing on the side of the road?!" idk? bc i wanted to go from 70+ to 0 in the grass! there was a nice runway/indentation in the grass behind it. thankfully there were only minor scratches in the clear coat on my car on the front where it went down. i also tried posting this pic to instagram while we were waiting for roadside, but for whatever reason the signal in paul's car was non-existant and it worked by mine......wtf. also, word to the wise: my car came with a tire goo kit. buy yourself a nice spare on the internets because tire goo's not gonna fix this. i got mine on ebay for about $70 (a few years ago) from a dealership along the east coast and it came with a jack set.
sidenote: i do not recommend that white with silver stars tape i got from a popsugar box. it's too heavy and a bit hard to work with.
week 3: gpass is our password for my client's email and other services. due diligence is referring to reviewing stories before story time. the yellow dots and owl were migraine days, and there should be enough context clues for the blue dot.
week 4: not a very exciting week. i had to drive back home for jury duty, which thankfully didn't last the whole day and i'm exempt for the next two years--w00t!
week 5: so i didn't know what to do with some of my sample stickers...so they ended up on saturday and sunday of this week. and no, i didn't actually go to mecha, but i hope that those who did had tons of fun!
notes page: as a way to de-stress, i sat for a few days making each row of designs. some of them were well thought out..others not so much. more like i was trying to replicate designs i made years ago, but i had the wrong "image" in mind when making some. after finishing, i was like man..some of these don't look right. and i found my originals, and sure enough..the originals were way better, and some of these look dumb. haha. oh well. (fb friends: refer to my Art Class pieces Sp'09 II album)

july hauls

hi guys! not too much hauled this month...spent a lot on planner stickers instead of beauty-related stuff. ~Lin-chan ^.~

beautylish: wayne goss the air-brush
sephora: sephora collection algae sheet mask
ulta: it cosmetics bye bye under eye corrector in light, brow power mini
winn-dixie: covergirl nail polishes in emerald blaze & teal on fire

sephora: mufe ink liner in black, 500 points: skin inc my daily dose set (vitamin a, chlorella, hyaluronic acid serums), code freebie: supergoop defense refresh setting mist with rosemary; sephora collection shea lip mask
amazon: tinkle razors set & cotu brush -- haven't tried the brush yet, but it doesn't feel as nice as the my beauty tool. this has a very dense, but cheap plasticy feel to it.
target: biore charcoal pore minimizing scrub
walmart: simple dual effect eye makeup remover

july empties & hit pans!

hi guys!! lots of skincare empties this month! ~Lin-chan ^.~
  1. simple cleansing wipes
  2. tree hut mango sugar scrub
  3. the body shop tea tree oil
  4. rimmel stay matte in transluscent
  5. loreal brow stylist plumper gel in medium to dark
  6. holika holika pig nose mask
  7. clinique ddm gel
  8. clean and clear acne control foaming face wash
  9. ion extreme moisture cream (hair mask)
  10. maybelline baby skin primer
  11. almay clear complexion concealer in light (not pictured)
  12. aveeno positively radiant skin brightening daily scrub -- this was only an ok product. i liked how scrubby and exfoliating it felt, but this is definitely not a daily use scrub. also, i used this maybe once a week or so, and it felt a bit stripping and my skin didn't really like it..
    repurchase? no
  13. garnier micellar water -- this gives bioderma a run for its money! i think i still like bioderma better (maybe biased?), but i do think this is a great, easily obtainable alternative.
    repurchase? yes
  14. it cosmetics brow power universal eyebrow pencil -- redeemed this for points on ipsy a while back and i ended up really liking it! i'm not sure if it's the formula or just the shape of the pencil that i like. but regardless, this is a pretty solid product.
    repurchase? already did
  15. sephora collection algae sheet mask -- i'm not sure how i feel about this new packaging. so now it's packaged with an extra sheet to help make it easier to unfold, which i guess is cool. i don't like how the slits are super bizarre. the mouth slit may as well be a robot rectangle mouth, and the eyes and nose slits are pretty ok. i don't like how there's no side slits along the cheeks or temples, so it fits kind of awkward and overlaps in places because it is literally a straight sheet on your face.
    repurchase? nah
  16. bath and body works a thousand wishes body wash -- my mil received this as a gift and passed it along to me. this scent is actually really nice, but i haven't really been buying these because they're kind of expensive--even with the semi annual sale.
    repurchase? nah
  17. freeman sparkling pear pore cleansing mask -- this mask was only ok. i liked how it went on and stuff, but i noticed within a couple days of using it, i'd break out. i'm not really sure if that's the "pore cleansing" aspect in action, but i'd rather not.
    repurchase? no
  18. maybelline sensational lash luscious mascara -- i think i preferred the original over this mascara, but it still did the things i liked: volume, length, and slight curl.
    repurchase? nah
  19. it cosmetics bye bye under eye corrector -- i bought this over a year ago and never started using it until i started this job. and to be honest, i haven't gone back since. i love this formulation and it's lasting power.
    repurchase? already did
hit pans
  1. wet n wild color icon blush in rose champagne
  2. nars dual intensity eyeshadow in himalia

life planner sticker haul - july

hi guys! it's time for another planner haul!!! this month, i didn't go too crazy, but here's a few things that i got! GEAUX SPORTS! ~Lin-chan ^.~
again, here's the link to my etsy list of purchased planner stuff

amazon: fleur de lis washi tape - kind of sad (and annoyed?) that they didn't send this inside a bag or wrapping and just threw it in my box. so there's bits of dirt stuck to the sides... >.>
Imagine That by Lori: i was looking around on etsy and i came across these, so cute! now i can keep track of the games!
-- coupon code: Thankyou for $2 off $10
[ note: these were printed on 8.5x11 sheets, cut in half, and sent to me. the OCD in me wanted to trim them up a bit, and there's nothing more gratifying than using an exacto knife and T square on a self-healing cutting mat! =P ]
GoodiMochi: i was looking to find a good lsu themed washi tape and i couldn't really find any anywhere. then i came across this shop when googling and i thought..this is so freakin perfect, it's from hong kong? sure i could wait!!

hobby lobby: the paper studio confetti & mint/gold washi tape set (note: the mint/gold is lined because of the nature of the gold leaf foil)
walmart: scotch expressions washi tapes
Imagine That By Lori: washi samples in candy corn and bunnies & carrots (these didn't fit in with the above photo, and it made more sense to have them here.)
target/walmart: scotch & duck washi tape; star stickers, sharpie pens (my other favorite pen!), dollar spot: 3pk of washi tape and rainbow 'binder labels'

That's the Plan: august through december monthly view kits (all but september are the 2 sheet option, and november & december came with accent sheets). i love the sample sheet she sent! i'm not a huge weekly list sticker person..because i'm not sure what i'd ever write on them..but the others will definitely get used!
also, when she originally sent my order, she forgot to send the third september sheet (which is understandable since the others were 2 sheet sets), and she was super amazing and prompt to send me the missing sheet. as a bonus, she also sent me a sheet of happy mail stickers! i'm definitely planning to buy from her again considering this experience, and the stickers are beautiful!!
-- coupon code: BACKAGAIN for 15% off

Oh Hello Stationery Co: first off, i love how the envelope is more than just an envelope.. and aren't these an awesome sampling of their stickers?! i ordered budgie & cockatiel stickey note tabs, pink with gold hearts skinny washi tape, migraine stickers, and the holiday celebration stickers!
-- coupon code for their site: free5 for $5 off $10

july favorites!

hi guys! i have only a few things this month too. been super busy with my work project that i haven't really been trying out much new stuff. ~Lin-chan ^.~
favorites:

  1. makeup mat -- sorry that it's a bit dirty.. i found this at walmart for like $3-4, and it's great! it's definitely helped with the mess on my dresser! and it's machine washable!
  2. royal & langnickel moda powder & complexion brushes -- this is a really nice fluffy powder brush, and i liked the complexion brush for foundation so much, i bought a second! i really like the weight and feel of these brushes, as well as the bright colors they come in!
  3. kiesque liquid palisade -- got this in my ipsy bag this month and it was like an instant favorite. nail polish mess cleaned up in an instant! i'm not sure i necessarily appreciate the cost and size of this exact product, so i'm interested in trying out brands that sell larger bottles for a better price.
  4. formula x for sephora in victory lap -- this is such a gorgeous color! i'm super sad that it was limited edition and sold out pretty quickly! my original swatch post got a ton of hits too since i was among the first to post about it!
  5. covergirl nail polish in teal on fire -- such a pretty duochrome, i love it! unfortunately i don't have nail swatches of this because..well blue's not acceptable at my office, so it's been on my toes..
  6. treat lip balm in marshmallow cream -- this is such a great lip balm. i don't remember if i ever mentioned it in a favorites before or not. i got this for christmas and have been using it once or twice daily since, and i'm only halfway down the tube!
random favorites:
  1. green tea kit kats -- omg, my mom found these at a local chinese grocery story and they are amazing! my picky grandmother even liked these! previously, i saw them in the mall for like $9 for 12 mini bars. that's crazy! but she got them for about $5 a bag. anyway, these are super good, the cream is a bit different from what they use for pocky, this is a little bit more granular in texture.

july 2016: sephora play!

hi guys! this month sephora came out with two versions of this box, and i got the oily skin one. (theme: effortless summer) ~Lin-chan ^.~
  1. beautyblender blotterazzi (mini?, $20 for compact with two [$10?]) -- so i intentionally did not buy this when it first came out because, it's kind of gimmicy and i'm not a huge blotter. this card came with one blotting sponge and a sample of their liquid cleanser (which is only ok). not huge on the presentation of this 'sample' considering the point of their compact is to keep it semi sanitary..and this is just an open piece of card stock.....anyway, i might give an update at a later time.
    repurchase? probably not
  2. too faced chocolate soleil bronzer in medium/deep (.08oz--mini, ret. $30 for .35oz [$6.86]) -- yay! this is like the 5 bajillionth one of these i've gotten. i'm still using my very first sample of this. so this is going to be passed along.
repurchase? at this rate, won't have to
  3. smashbox photo finish oil free pore minimizing primer (.25oz--mini, ret. $39 for 1oz [$9.75]) -- i'm interested in trying this out. i usually enjoy using their clear one, but this one is nice too. this has no scent, and is more or less similar to benefit's porefessional, but smooths out a lot thinner and more evenly.
    repurchase? maybe
  4. ouai wave spray (1.7oz--mini, ret. $26 for 5oz [$8.84]) -- i'm not sure how i feel about this product, mostly because of the scent. but i'll try it out and i'll report back some other time.
    repurchase? probably not
  5. first aid beauty skin rescue deep cleanser with red clay (1oz--mini, ret. $24 for 4.7oz [$5.11]) -- this is actually my second (or more?) sample of this and i haven't even used the first yet. so i'll try to make an effort to use the other one and make a decision on what to do with this one later.
    repurchase? undecided
  6. nest citrine (sample, ret. $68 for 1.7oz) -- at first i kind of liked this scent, but as it dried down, it was a little too floral for me. not only that, this is super strong. so this will get passed along
    repurchase? no
  7. 'coupon' for an extra 50 points on the next in-store purchase
approximate product value: ~$40

july 2016 ipsy bag

hi guys! i've neglected posting about it until now, but on friday i got my july IPSY BAG*! (theme: hot summer nights) ~Lin-chan ^.~
here's my impressions:
  1. elizabeth mott show me your cheeks blush in peach pink (2.5g--mini, ret. $23 for 5g [$11.50]) -- this is a super sheer version of nars orgasm. like almost just a highlighter more than a blush, unless you go super heavy with it to make it show up.
    • likelihood to repurchase: probably not
  2. trust fund beauty nail polish in no filter (17ml--full size, ret. $15) -- applying this, i was super impressed with how it was one coat and go, and it quickly self-leveled. this shade however looks like death on my skintone. so this is going to get passed along.
    • likelihood to repurchase: not this shade
      • theBalm meet matt(e)trimony eyeshadow in matt kumar (.5g--mini, ret. $42 for palette (21.6g) [$0.98]) -- at first, i wasn't too sure about this one, but it's actually really pretty paired with peachy shades (like makeup geek purely naked).
        • likelihood to repurchase: probably not, i have too many palettes
      • befine night cream (1oz--mini?, ret. $20? [$10 for .5oz]) -- the scent of this is super weird. like i can definitely tell that it's a rice type scent, but millet...i'm not totally sure.. granted, when i had birds, i never sniffed their food, lol! the cream itself is relatively light and feels nice, but i'm not sure why this is considered a night cream, but whatever.
        • likelihood to repurchase: probably not
      • model launcher cosmetics felt tip eyeliner in emerald isle (.33oz--full size, ret. $13) -- i'm not sure that this would be opaque enough for my liking, but it seems like it might be a good liner.
        • likelihood to repurchase: probably not
      • points freebie: kiesque liquid palisade (.08oz--full size, ret. $14) -- i got this uncertain about how well it works considering some of the poor reviews on sephora. but hey, it was 'free', so why not? you do need to shake this before applying, and it's fairly thin. applying it was kind of annoying, but peeling it off was super satisfying and clean. so i'm interested in trying similar products to this. if i use this regularly, i'm not sure how long it'd last. also, based on the sephora reviews, people were mentioning that these dried out pretty fast, to make sure you seal it propery.
        • likelihood to repurchase? maybe, or other similar products
      • holographic beach umbrella ipsy bag -- so when they first released photos of this bag..i definitely thought of peppermints with shadows...not an umbrella. but either way, it's cute.
      • card with company info/discount codes (some codes are case sensitive)

      june favorites!

hi guys! i'm actually making a standalone favorites post this month! but there's still only a few new things that i've been super loving this month. ~Lin-chan ^.~
      favorites:

      1. lorac pro 3 -- i'm not sure if you can see it or not..but there's a serious dent happening in the rose bronze shade. and i've only used this palette maybe 5 times..... yeah. anyway, the shades i've been primarily using from this palette are: canvas (browbone), cool taupe, clay, pink nude (crease/transition), almond pearl (inner corner), and rose bronze (lid).
      2. colourpop gel liner in swerve -- this is a great black liner for the waterline! it stays put pretty much the whole day! whenever i do decide to order from them again, i am interested in trying other colors!
      3. wet n wild color icon blush in rose champagne -- this is a very nice subtle blush, and you could probably get away with buying this blush instead of benefit dallas...maybe. haha. $3 vs. $29...yeah.
      random favorites:
      1. 91% isopropyl alcohol (in a small spray bottle) -- so i learned something very important this month. actually sanitizing your makeup is a real thing. i used my naked 3 palette on two occasions and noticed my eyes were irritated a few hours later. so i decided to put some alcohol in the palette, and used it again and no irritation!! also, i did the same thing with my hoola bronzer, because i noticed i kept breaking out around my cheeks. within a few days, my acne was gone and hasn't come back. so, lesson learned: yes, you should sanitize your products.
      2. kasugai hokkaido matcha milk candy -- this is soo good! pictured is literally my last one. i need to go back to world market and get more!
      meh's:
      1. jack black the stick lip balm -- this is kind of a disappointment. this tube is the same price as the squeeze tube and is not worth it. yes, the scent is the same and it kind of feels the same...but that's it. every time i used this, my lips would crack. i don't understand. it's the same product. yeah probably not. but anyway, just stick with their squeeze tubes.

      june empties

hi guys!! it's july already?! well anyway, here's last month's empties. i had quite a few larger items this time! ~Lin-chan ^.~
      1. tree hut coconut lime sugar scrub
      2. tarte maracuja eye cream
      3. clinique clarifying lotion 3
      4. maybelline fit me matte + poreless foundation in 120
      5. sonia kashuk eye makeup remover
      6. simple cleansing wipes
      7. alterna caviar repairx spray
      8. aveeno positively smooth shave gel
      9. vitabath sweet vanilla amber shower gel -- i kind of wish this didn't have as strong of an amber scent to it. it kind of made it feel masculine and i'm not really into that.
        repurchase? nah
      10. tone blissful awakening shower gel -- this smelled..interesting. i'm not really sure how i feel about this one exactly. like the scent was pleasant, but i'm not sure how i feel about the warming sensation it gives when you use it. very weird!
        repurchase? nah
      11. bliss lemon + sage body butter -- this is a very nice and neutral scent and i really enjoyed it!
        repurchase? yes
      12. traditions by nick chavez prickly pear restoring mist -- i can't even remember when i got this... like i know how i got it, and it was like in 2012 from a beauty.com $100 freebie bag and i never used it... but i finally decided to use it and get rid of it. the scent was really nice but i'm not sure if it really did anything special for me necessarily.
        repurchase? nah
      13. burt's bees acne solutions targeted spot treatment -- i feel like this is the exact stuff they put into their rollerball (which i liked), but i could be totally wrong. anyway, i also ended up pulling the stopper out of this and dunked a qtip into it whenever i went to use it.
        repurchase? nah
      14. garnier whole blends shampoo & conditioner in honey treasures -- these have such a pleasant scent! i really enjoyed using them and my hair felt very healthy, and looked shiny.
repurchase? already did! see my june hauls post!
        1. sidenote: these were samples i received from pinchme.com*, where you can get samples for free for your review. and it's just a short survey on their site, no need to blog or anything!
      [not pictured]
      1. secret clinical protection deodorant
