november 2015 empties & two hit pans!!!

it's november empties timeeeee! lots of skincare and haircare this time! ~Lin-chan ^.~

  1. glamglow supermud
  2. simple cleansing wipes
  3. bioderma sensibio
  4. sonia kashuk eye makeup remover
  5. maybelline fit me matte+poreless foundation in 120
  6. sephora solid brush cleaner
  7. urban decay perversion mascara
  8. macadamia natural oil healing oil treatment
  9. tree hut amazon pequi sugar scrub -- i really enjoyed using this one. it has a nice floraly oily type scent to it...it's kind of hard to describe.. but it's worth checking out if you can!
    repurchase? maybe
  10. tony moly red wine sheet mask -- it doesn't have a very detectable scent, which i like. do i think it minimized my pores..? meh, i didn't notice much of a size difference. i think my skin did tighten a little, but idk. lol. honestly, i'm not 100% sure i notice the differences these sheet masks are supposed to make..maybe with continuous use, i would?
    repurchase? nah
  11. acure reparing shampoo and conditioner -- these were pretty nice. the shampoo has a really nice scent to it. i love it. on the other hand, the conditioner has a different scent..which is weird but ok. i feel like they worked well with my hair/scalp type and i didn't get greasy.
repurchase? maybe the shampoo, nah for conditioner
  12. queen helene mint julep scrub -- this is a really nice physical exfoliating scrub. i liked the scent and how it made my skin feel afterward
    repurchase? yes
  13. up & up compare to simple cleansing wipes -- i thought that these were pretty good. the cloths are a lot thicker than simple's, but i don't feel like they were quite as saturated or quickly effective..does that make sense.. like it took a little more effort to get makeup off with these, but not much.
    repurchase? maybe
  14. maybelline blushed nudes palette -- NOOOOOO! the inevitable has happened. actually this was going to happen eventually. lol. i foresaw it, you guys saw it coming....i bought all the dupes i thought might work out for when this really runs out.
repurchase? probably not, since i only really used 5 colors consistently
[not pictured]
  1. caress creamy vanilla & sandalwood body wash
  2. secret outlast deodorant unscented invisible solid -- i've finally finished this terrible thing!! i got it last summer when we went to disney because i didn't bring enough deodorant. and lemme tell ya, florida and lousiana heat and humidity did it's work on this awful stuff. so that's why it took me so long to use it, i left it at the in-laws'. and now it's gone. now, it's fine for cooler climates or weather, but don't plan on being outside more than 10 minutes where i live!
    repurchase? LOL

himalia, bliss, dallas, hoola

naked smoky palette
  1. nars dual intensity eyeshadow in himalia -- i've been wearing this a ton since i got it. i've been pairing it with makeup geek barcelona beach (crease) and rapunzel (brow).
  2. benefit hoola bronzer & dallas blush -- i don't know why i've neglected these for so freaking long. i bought them eternity and a half ago and never used them until halloween-ish. and i've used them nearly every day now. what was i ever thinking? hoola is amazing for contour/bronzing..and shadow. and dallas is such a great darkened rosy shade.
  3. ofra bliss shadow/highlight -- this is super gorgeous. i've been wearing it with hoola and dallas and it's been awesome. super love!
  4. urban decay naked smokey palette -- another halloween discovery..ish. i was looking for a way to use this palette for my oh so creative cat costume for halloween at work, and i stumbled upon this tutorial. so far, this look is all i've used this palette for, but i'll look for more inspiration sometime soon.

ud x gwen stefani palette - initial thoughts

hi guys! i finally got my hands on my new gwen stefani palette yesterday..but i didn't really get to touch it until today. now, i haven't actually tried using it yet, aside from swatching. but i think overall, this is an amazing selection and great quality. ~Lin-chan ^.~

first, the bad. punk is not that good. it swatched super patchy and just didn't feel that great. i'm sure that if it were applied with a fluffy brush and in the crease or something, it'd be fine. but don't try to put this one all over your lid. second, pop. texturally it's more grainy and will probably have more fall-out than the other shimmery shades. personally i'm ok with it, but i wanted to mention it for those who care.

and now, for the good. blackout. i did not have high expectations for this shade whatsoever. it's a matte black, and seemingly no one has gotten this one right yet. when i swatched this, i was freaking blown away. i'm not one for black eyeshadows, but this one is super amazing and swatched beautifully. if you see my swatch below, that is bare skin..because i didn't think i'd need primer that far down my arm...and it's one swipe of the finger. holy crap! so good! second, harajuku. reviews online made this one seem not so great, but i actually think that this one isn't too bad. maybe it has fall-out, but i thought that this one swatched very nicely and pigmented. third and fourth: danger and 1987. i didn't think i'd love these, but i do. omg these are the perfect pops of color for this palette and the color, pigmentation, formulation, and everything...so perfect. i'm really excited.

i love the packaging. it's plastic with a white plastic cutout on the cover, which has a very nice metal plate with ud | gwen stefani stamped onto it. ugh i love it.

lips: bite high pigment lip pencil in rhubarb

notd: formula x asap 3D nail appliques

hi guys! this will be the first of a series of posts tonight! because i've got time!! anyway, a while back, i bought this pack of nail appliques (i think it's still on sephora clearance), and never got the opportunity to wear them..because i work and have to be a business professional. *insert snooty businessperson here* lol, anyway, the set i got is in too deep, and here's how they turned out and what i thought of them. ~Lin-chan ^.~
application: this is similar to the sally hansen nail strips. you clean your nails with acetone or alcohol, peel the backing and place it on the nail it best fits. take the provided file and file off the excess length.
[edit] removal: this came off just like regular nail polish...except where the silver bubbly 3D thingies were. those needed a little more work to remove, but they eventually came off.
impressions: when you first open it, omg it smells like nail polish. and it lingered a long time. as the package says.."real nail lacquer"..yeah. the only thing i didn't totally like was that there were three sheets and each had the same shapes and sizes. so some of them, i had to trim the sides of the nails off, as well as the length because they didn't quite fit right. but, they do give you 18 of them to choose from, so not too bad. the 3D-ness is kind of cool. for this particular set, it's the silver parts that are slightly bubbled on the nails. but overall, i like how these turned out. i'm not sure how long they'll last, but they're still looking pretty good after about 20 hours.

as a bonus, here's my notd from earlier this week that kind of chipped really bad after about two days... china glaze fireside glow and covergirl being blonde.

november 2015: sephora play!

hi guys! my november sephora play! box came in today! yay!! (theme: the exclusives) i'm super excited about the bite lip pencil---i've had my eye on this particular shade for a while!!!!!! ~Lin-chan ^.~
note: please excuse the face. i am exhausted. i got up at 7 this morning to go to work for training, and didn't get to leave until 5. TT_TT (see instagram pic in sidebar)

bite rhubarb

buxom dolly
  1. bite beauty high pigment lip pencil in rhubarb (.05oz--mini, $24 for .09oz [$13.34]) -- omg you guys. this has been on my list since last year's holiday gift sets! i'm super excited that i have this now, not only to try out the formula, but this is my color!
    repurchase? possibly
  2. buxom full-on lip cream in dolly (.07oz--mini, ret. $19 for .15oz [$8.87]) -- i'm not 100% sold on this one. like the color is nice on me, but i don't like how it can bunch up..? like if you purse your lips together, there's a noticeable line there--you guys know what i mean. anyway, i like the formula, but i'm not sure about this color.
    repurchase? nah
  3. sephora collection contour eye pencil in 29 my boyfriend's jeans (.017oz--mini, ret. $10 for .04oz [$4.25]) -- i was kind of sad when i swatched this. it's not as super prettyful as the indicator on the end of the pencil. lol. i was hoping it to be more full-on metallic..but it's almost like a normal blue shade, with a hint of metallic shimmer.
    repurchase? nah
  4. makeup forever step 1 hydrating primer (.16oz--mini, ret. $36 for 1oz [$5.76]) -- i'm probably going to pass this off. you guys know...hydrating anything face is no good for me! haha.
    repurchase? no
  5. josie maran 100% pure argan oil (.16oz--mini, ret. $48 for 1.7oz [$4.52]) -- over the years, i've acquired quite a few of these and have never gotten around to actually using them for anything. so i'll probably pass this one off (just like the others), since i've got one open..somewhere.....
    repurchase? probably not
  6. stella mccartney stella eau de parfum (sample, ret. $50 for 1oz) -- i'm really bad at describing scents.. i just know i don't like it. and, after reading the card, it says "rose" and "amber"...and we all know that lindsay loves rose scented things.
    repurchase? no
  7. 'coupon' for an extra 50 points on the next in-store purchase
approximate product value: ~$36.74+

five months (weeks 22 & 23)

bahhhh. who the hell cares anymore! i was originally planning on saying this next month, for the 6 month mark...but since i'll be in training for the next month, i don't think i'll have anything interesting to say for the next two posts. with that said, i think i'm going to quit making work updates (as frequently) just because they're really not all that interesting from an outsider's perspective. it's hard for me to tell you what i do, or the software, etc without putting in a ton of key words into here (again, i'm not keen on the idea of everybody work knowing about and seeing my blog). annnnd i'm having trouble keeping up with writing them. it may not seem like it, but i've been waiting til the ends of each week before writing everything down..then jogging my memory of what i even did or accomplished... anyway, i'll let you guys know if anything big happens, like if i actually get on a client project and can travel places and whatnot. otherwise, i think i'll be slowing these posts down. hope that's ok with you guys and that y'all are doing well! ~Lin-chan ^.~

week 22
in summary: it was chaos. our team member was still in town m-th and gave seminars for people in the office. otherwise he had a lot of conference calls to attend and our project kept getting on the back-burner and slowed down. for veterans day, they decided to have a get together on the terrace to acknowledge those in our office who've served. periodically throughout the week, S and i had been introduced to and in contact with someone else who let us onto their project..again without a billing code. so we're like in this stupid limbo of two projects but billing no one. then friday rolls around and my manager wants us to take a month-long training (including two saturdays!) to learn a new programming language, and drop said two unbillable projects. like really. really? so it's been kind of crazy hectic. but whatever. also on friday, we went to the middle school again and made plastic out of agar, cornstarch, glycerin, and water. really neat!

week 23
it was crazy and hectic. we started doing our java training which went from afternoon to late evening---which by the way, really sucks. the only caveat to that was that i could go into work late and there's no traffic coming or going, which was kind of nice. second, we learned that we are being put onto a different functional team, which is why we are learning java. so, forget the fact that we spent the past 4 months learning this one functional area and two programming languages (and still suck at all of them). but here! learn a new language and some totally new software! so not only are we spending about 5 hours a day on java training, we are spending about an hour a day with our new functional group, learning their stuff. and not only that, wednesday and thursday of this week i had a mandatory 2 hour webinars on how to be a good employee for clients, yadda yadda. i was supposed to have a third one on friday, but our manager's manager called for a meeting regarding my new functional group during that time frame. so it was training session after training session for basically the whole week. @_@ it was awful. not to mention the fact that i have to go to work tomorrow because it's one of the saturdays that they scheduled. the instructor is from another country, so needless to say, it's on this particular schedule for a reason... so TT_TT's & 晚上's for me!!! but i guess that's that salary life! lol.

november 2015 ipsy bag

hi guys! my november IPSY BAG* has arrived! (theme: beauty blast)

note: it has come to my attention that i failed to make a post last week. but i think i did pretty good with that blog goal for the year, i kept it for 10.5 months! lol. anyway, with that said, there'll be at least one more post this week, maybe two in addition (4 for the week) if i can manage it. work has been sucking busy--as you'll see in this week's work update. ~Lin-chan ^.~

here's my impressions:
  1. trestique matte lip crayon in chile red (.02oz--mini, ret. $28 for .06 [$9.33] -- this has a really interesting texture. it glides on nicely, feeling very lightweight and super comfortable. when it dries, it has a slightly powdery-dry feel to it. this shade is really pretty, it has an orangy base, and it seems like it has a slight golden shimmer/shine to it. but on that note, orange-based reds are not for me and my skintone, so i'll be passing this off.
    • likelihood to repurchase: no, maybe for other colors
  2. skin inc pure revival peel (.16oz--mini, ret. $55 for 2oz [$4.40]) -- i haven't used a peel before, so this'll be interesting. i have heard of this brand and its wonders, but it's kind of expensive....
    • likelihood to repurchase: probably not
      • smashbox full exposure mascara (.1oz--mini, ret. $20 for .38oz [$5.26]) -- i had a full size of this a long ways back, and when i finally got around to opening it. it wasn't good anymore. so i'm excited to try out a fresh tube of it.
        • likelihood to repurchase: maybe
      • luxie beauty matte eyeshadow pan in aubergine (#290) (1oz--full size, ret. $6) -- this shadow's interesting. i'll try it out, but i'm not sure how much i'll like using it. it's a bit chunky chalky since it's a matte shadow. and the shade isn't that purple to me. more like a weird darkened gray. i'll have to get back to you on this one.
        • likelihood to repurchase: nah
      • jelly pong pong liquid gossamer (.27oz--full size, ret. $22.95) -- this has a really pretty shimmer and shine to it. i don't totally agree with the packaging choice..it's literally regular squeeze tube with no special precision applicator.
        • likelihood to repurchase: maybe
      • outer space themed ipsy bag -- omg all the pretty colors!

      weeks 20 & 21

it's been another couple of up and down weeks! ~Lindsay-chan ^.~
      week 20
monday: it was a weird day. the weekend was ridiculously rainy, so i got flooded into my parking lot. more like the major street behind my apartment was completely flooded and traffic was being diverted right along the other side of my apartment, making it nearly physically impossible to leave. more like it would have taken me over an hour of going about in debris-filled streets just to go to work. not to mention the other major streets in the surrounding area were also either barricaded off or flooded the night previously. no thank you. so i ended up taking an at home day, thankfully my manager was understanding. and it was great and it sucked at the same time. after my failed attempt to drive out of the parking lot, i came in and changed into sweatpants. yup. then, i took our daily skype meeting in the bedroom because paul was sleeping in the office/spare bedroom. a couple hours later, i woke him up and kicked him out so i could sit at my desk. then i periodically took calls from my desk and kind of but not really ran around the apartment the whole time. around 10, the news posted a photo from the street behind my apartment. it was of a parked, flooded car..basically at the other end of our apartment complex (across from the very popular bar/seafood restaurant). so that was awesome to see. then sometime around 12-1, i was looking out of the window and saw that they opened up the street again (by the bookstore). anyway. pros and cons from working at home: sweatpants, but lots of distractions.
tuesday: spent the afternoon working on a few forms that our whole office has to complete. one of them is like an end of project review and the other is about my goals for the year, both of which are kind of but not really taken into consideration our end of year performance reviews.
wednesday: it was a continuation of wednesday. i was hoping to finish them by lunch, but that didn't end up happening. the end of project form was a lot more tedious than anticipated, and i ended up finishing it close to 4.
thursday: in the morning, i finished of the goals form, finally...or well, half of it. my manager had to approve it, then send it back for me to say what i did, like if i achieved those goals and stuff..because apparently the goal-setting part was something i was supposed to do a long time ago. haha. yeah....
friday: we finally finished a task we took the previous week for our project. at lunch time, they had a party out on the terrace, which was kind of fun. they had a costume contest, and most of the office came out to relax for a while. it was funny, my manager came over and took a picture of me. haha. i had the simplest outfit on too, i had all black on and cat ears. no kitty nose or whiskers, but yeah idk, haha. maybe 10 minutes later, two of the HR ladies and my manager pull me over and tell me not to laugh, but am i dressed as an anime cat? and i laughed, and said it's funny you guys mention that, i bought these cat ears at an anime convention a few years ago! and then we had an awkward conversation about how the three of them's......kids (aged 15-20s) all liked anime. it was such an awkward conversation! hahaha, but it was funny that they were the ones that brought it up!

makeup: more or less the same as the halloween party post, but i used the urban decay naked smoky palette following this tutorial, with rimmel's black eyeliner on the waterlines and lower lash line, setting the lower lash line with ud black market.

      week 21
monday: i'm now considered not on a project! what. but technically i still am. we are going to keep on keeping on with what we've been doing until we can get onto a client project..which is what the "smart" people of our group have been doing for several months now. and speaking of them, all of them flew in to participate in some trainings in our office this week. so that's cool, we get to see them in person again! unfortunately, we didn't get much accomplished on our project because it's hard for those guys to answer any questions we had quickly. so we ended up watching some youtube videos relevant to what we're working on.
tuesday: it was awful. they have these meetings for people who aren't on projects..basically pity parties to encourage everyone to keep applying for projects and contact the pm's, yadda yadda. it was awful and i hope i get on something again soon. a few hours later, we had a quarterly conference call and it was ridiculously annoying. for some reason our managers decided to round us up into a conference room that did not have enough chairs for all of us. then they opened it up with like 10 minutes of "something fun" to lighten things up. and then they ran late because they wasted too much time at the beginning on nonsense. not to mention that i was fidgety the entire time because it was awkward sitting in a room, facing other people, while trying to look at the presentation screen and not my hands or the computer or phone...for an hour. and the person in control of the powerpoint (it was a cloud meeting, controlled by the powers that be) wasn't keeping up with what slide was supposed to be on the screen. >.> yeah. kind of a crappy day all together.
wednesday: we spend most of the morning dawdling around and finishing some of the youtube videos i started monday. i started going over a java tutorial to try and learn it, but i probably should go to other, better sites than the one i picked. after lunch, the guys messaged us to work on something related to our project and it was magic after a while, whatever the issue was, wasn't something we did or needed to fix! then afterward, my manager comes by to tell S and i to fix a few things on our resumes because they weren't fully inclusive or appealing (elaborate more on our skills), and that he's sending them off to someone. so that means there's something in the works for us.
thursday: we had another early morning pity party. it sucked. just like last time. otherwise, i didn't get a whole lot accomplished. i tried working on the app we're making to no avail. after work, we all went out to dinner, which was kind of cool.
friday: spent the day slaving away at understanding how to make our app, as well as taking a mini tour of the area surrounding our office with the one remaining guy from our group. he's actually staying til next week to help us learn more, as well as give a few lunch and learn sessions for whoever in our office, which will definitely be beneficial.

      october favorites & mehs

hi guys! only a couple items last month too. enjoy. ~Lin-chan ^.~
      favorites:

designer or die, silk sheets, style icon, star treatment, lingerie lover, wild nights
      1. becca shimmering skin perfector poured in opal -- i took this on my orlando trip and i loved it. you guys know i'm not as huge into cream cheek products..but this was buttah. it blended out amazingly.
      2. buxom custom palette (shadows listed above) -- i think i did a pretty good job at picking these 6 shades. the first four are great for more neutral looks, and sometimes i like changing it  up and using the first two and last three to semi-replicate what i've been doing with the maybelline blushed nudes palette.
        1. i've got another one sitting on my sephora wishlist right now. some of them are out of stock and i haven't swatched them in the store yet. but we're going to wait until the vib sale and see what kind of discounts we can get.
      3. jergens bb body cream -- i forgot how much i loved this lotion. omg. the scent is nice and the tint it gives is super nice too. just make sure it's dry before putting clothes on because the color will transfer.
      4. luxie beauty tapered blending eye brush 205 -- i redeemed some ipsy points for this and got it with this month's bag. and it became an instant favorite. it's a great crease area brush, super soft and fluffy.
      random favorites:
      1. stoli ginger beer -- not a recent favorite. actually my mom gave us some of these a while back when i decided i wanted to try moscow mules. turns out those are absolutely disgusting, but stoli ginger beer (compared to about 4 other brands we've tried) is really, really good. ginger beer is non-alcoholic, it's ginger soda. not ginger ale, but strong gingery soda.
      2. not your father's rootbeer -- this is alcoholic. it's hard rootbeer. and it's really good. i hate anything that remotely tastes like alcohol, and this you almost can't tell. and it also has a higher abv than your average beer. so not only is it super drinkable, making you think nothing of it, if you stand up too fast you'll feel it. haha.
        1. note: this is better on ice than in the bottle.
        2. in comparison, the coney island one is absolutely gross. again, it has alcohol taste.
        3. disclaimer: drink responsibly and yadda yadda. don't drink if you're under age, etc.
      meh/undecided:
      1. becca shimmering skin perfector [liquid] in opal -- i also took this with me on our orlando trip. and i did not like this quite as much. i felt that it blended away and didn't really show up as strongly as i would have liked. i guess you could consider it more natural looking than the poured and pressed versions, which i like more.

      october 2015 empties!

yay for october empties! sorry this post is late! lots of stuff happening between work, family, and halloween. ~Lin-chan ^.~
      1. maybelline fit me matte+poreless foundation
      2. soap & glory clean on me body wash
      3. clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel
      4. simple cleansing wipes
      5. smashbox photo finish primer
      6. perfect formula pink gel coat
      7. sephora collection pearl sheet mask -- this came in my october sephora play! box. the absolute biggest complaint is how awkwardly shaped this thing was. who has a short, rectangular face? the side parts stretched past my earlobes! do people really have that big of a face that they'd make this their 'one size fits none' mask? on another note, the material of the mask was quite nice. because it's a fiber mask, (i suppose) this makes it stronger and more durable, and thus less likely to rip while you're unfolding a thin piece of wet cloth. anyway, the serum that was on it had no scent (which was great), and my face felt nice afterward. did it look brighter..? i dunno. i feel like that's something you'd see with repeated use.
        repurchase? nah
      8. makeup forever mist & fix -- maybe this does work well, but i'm not into the scent. i'm glad i got the smaller bottle
        repurchase? no
      9. loreal total repair 5 restoring shampoo -- this came in one of the target boxes for this month, and i really enjoyed using it. my hair felt pretty freaking awesome after using it and the scent was great too!
        repurchase? maybe
      10. l'occitane cherry blossom hand cream -- this is a great scented hand cream. i'm not sure if i'd get it again because of the cost and because it's kind of strong to use on a daily basis or office setting.
        repurchase? maybe
      11. lorac front of the line pro liquid liner -- i'm retiring this guy because it's starting to irritate my eyes. but i think the problem is that it's old now. when i first tried this, i loved it. i think it was one of the first brush-tip liquid pen liners i've tried. but now that i've tried the kat von d tattoo liner...i like that one more.
        repurchase? nah
      12. parian spirit -- this is a great spot cleaner.
        repurchase? yes
      13. maybelline lash sensational mascara (blackest black?) -- this is a great natural looking mascara. it gave a nice flair and some volume.
        repurchase? yes
      14. maybelline dream wonder powder in 20 classic ivory -- this had a sad. i accidentally dropped it and it shattered all over the floor. and i maybe used it 20 times or less..... yeah. while it lasted, i did enjoy using it but i'm probably not going to repurchase unless i need a new compact to travel with. (vs. rimmel london stay matte which is not as travel-friendly)
        repurchase? maybe
      15. glamglow supercleanse -- this is so good. i loved it so much. it was really interesting in application, it was a dark gray muddy color and foamed off nicely when you rinsed. i liked the scent and feeling my skin had after using it and i'm super sad that it's gone!
        repurchase? i wish!
      [not pictured]
      1. wet n wild fergie bb cream in light
      2. alterna caviar cc cream
      3. pantene sleek & shine shampoo
      4. pantene damage detox conditioner -- just like the shampoo, i loved how minty this smelled!
        repurchase? probably
      5. ion extreme moisture cream -- i definitely will not repurchase this in the pump bottle, because this stuff is too thick to dispense. i've got a squeeze tube at the in-law's (which is the first one i ever got) and it's so much easier to dispense. anyway, this is a great, inexpensive hair mask and the scent's not too bad either
        repurchase? probably
      6. clean & clear advantage acne control 3-in-1 foaming face wash -- this is a great, wash your face and go...face wash. i don't advise using this in the shower though, it's more likely to get in your eyes.
        repurchase? probably
      7. eos vanilla mint lip balm -- this was a good one. i loved the scent and it worked well for me.
        repurchase? maybe
