april hauls

hi guys! here's this month's damages... ~Lin-chan ^.~

ps, my ipsy bag got lost in the mail, so i sent them an email and i'm waiting for the replacement to arrive.

rimmel liner, master hi-lite in nude, copper chic quad, physician's formula natural nudes (top half, bottom half, mixed)
  • target: garnier nourishing cleansing oil, sonia kashuk eye makeup remover
  • ulta: maybelline master hi-light in nude, baby lips in blush burst, it's a 10 miracle leave-in plus keratin (free after $20 purchase!)
    • omg, after using the it's a 10, i think i've been converted. my hair feels very soft and healthy after using this.
  • sephora: bottoms up beauty spatula -- i still haven't cracked open the beauty spoon, but i like the design and size of this one. we'll have to see.
  • walmart/cvs/walgreens:
    • fuse gelnamel polish kit in sonic blue-m (see notd post, addendum post)
    • Maybelline the rocket waterproof mascara--out of the gazillion mascaras that i have lying in wait, i don't have a waterproof one.. what?! so i bought one for our trip next month
    • Physicians formula custom nudes in natural nudes--omg this is so pretteh. by recommendation of hollieeatslipstick
    • Rimmel London kohl pencil in black -- this is a great and inexpensive waterline pencil--it stays put! ..but not so much as a lash liner because it fades and migrates.
    • Venus travel razor---gahhh! chibi kawaiiii! super excited that venus razor handles can hold any of the venus replacement blades. a long time ago, my mom got me a bunch of refills and i still have a bunch, unopened. i'm not totally sure why they put a giant photo of the razor on the packaging though, it's stupid looking and the actual razor looks much better.

sephora 15% off: dome z palette (z palette review)
shoplately*/daisygem: silver chunky chain necklace, silver arrow midi ring

jennifer's nude, eva's nude, brazilian tan, ipanema beach; comfort zone palette (left side, right side)

  • k-mart: wet n wild sea ya soon (notd), elf cover everything concealer in light, clarifying pressed powder in ivory, rimmel eyeshadow paint in chestnut taupe

dim light, incandescent light, radiant light
sephora.com: hourglass ambient lighting palette -- omg i was so excited when i heard these were going back on sale. before, they were limited edition, but from what i hear, i think they're permanent now..? or at least they're re-promoting them..because i gots one.

3x a lady, 3rd wheel, 3x a charm, 3 strikes
  • gilt.com*: skylark by elle & blair memoir fragrance set. i'm a fan of #2, 1 & 3 seem like "grandma scents" to me...or it's just what my grandmothers would wear...i'm not sure.
  • groupon: dermstore lip quench duo (only one is pictured up there..), jesse's girl eyeliner pen duo (swatched up above)--you guys don't understand, everywhere near me that sells jesse's girl does not carry the liquid liner. i don't know why. i have been wanting to try this for like three years now, and two for like $9 was a deal!
  • walmart: hard candy sculpting trios in 3rd wheel (top), 3x a charm (right), 3 strikes (left); milani brow gel, brow wax, invisible lip liner; revlon lipstick in honey bare (swatched up above)

  • cvs: cover girl katy perry shadow quads in natural nudes & smoky nudes--in reality these could probably be passed on; maybelline master drama chromatic liner in turn on the teal--this liner, omg is gorgeous. i love it.

notd: fuse gelnamel in polar bare

post has been updated.

hi guys! today i've got fuse polar bare for ya! i bought this polish because of the rotten luck i got with the sonic blue-m polish (see my review here) and i wanted to see if all of them suck or if it was just the blue one or what was going on. this polish is a really pretty pale or pastel pink with fine gold and silver glitter particles. i painted my ring fingers with one coat, and two coats on the rest. but i think that i like 1 coat better than two, because it's sheer and more natural looking. three coats might be opaque but i'm not patient enough to try it. ^_^ also, if you do purchase this and decide to only use one coat, make sure it's even before curing it. you don't want any streaks! anyway, i noticed there weren't many swatches of this polish online, so enjoy! ~Lin-chan ^.~

update:
so this polish probably got about the same wear as the sonic blue-m. pretty annoying. but i think it's a 2-coat thing. both of my ring fingers still looked pretty good when i went to remove them. the only problem was the polish didn't want to remove from those two nails as nicely as the ones that had two coats. i actually had to bust out a file and file the polish off my nails, even after soaking them for 15 minutes (i recently bought onyx professional soak off for gel & shellac). overall, i liked the one coat experience with this polish but i'm still reluctant about this line of polishes.

update: fuse gelnamel polish in sonic blue-m

hi guys! so here we are, making an addendum to my previous fuse gelnamel sonic blue-m post.

i previously mentioned how i really enjoyed how it was a 1-2 coats and go type process, with a small, one-finger lamp to help prevent polish from pooling on the edges. it's also a self-leveling polish, given that you allow enough time for it to do so, before you cure it under the lamp.

now onto the ugly: this is about 30 hours after my first application. (my other hand was ok still.)

ok. ok, so i decided to soak my thumb, pointer, and middle to reapply the polish.

removing this polish is pretty annoying. you need to ensure that (if you use the foil method) your cotton balls are thoroughly soaked with acetone and that you wait 10 minutes minimum before attempting to scrape it off. and don't expect the little baby orange stick provided in the kit will do you any good. the tip bent and kind of splintered off after a few tries. luckily i have a metal cuticle pusher, but still. this polish does not remove like most gel or shellac manicures. gel and shellac have cracks for the acetone to sink into and break the polish apart. this polish just kind of lifts from the nail and curls along the edges. but sometimes, even after the 10 minutes of the foil method, there's still patches that are attached. another issue i had with removal is that sometimes along the sides of the nail where it meets your skin, there are remnants that will not budge or remove completely. ugh.

and so i proceeded to paint the three aforementioned fingers. and two days later, this happened, along with a few other fingers on my other hand. really. really?!

now, i didn't take pictures round two with this polish just because i didn't think it was necessary. but basically, i had the same experience. within about two days of doing them, they were already starting to chip and it was still annoying to remove them. so i applied a dark polish on top (see post here) to avoid awkward blue edges sitting amid a light colored polish (see another notd post here).

overall, i don't think that this polish is all that great, considering the amount of time and effort it takes to paint and remove them, and their lasting power is awful. now, i have purchased another polish from this line to see if just this blue one is faulty or not, but we'll have to see about it later. ~Lin-chan ^.~

notd: seche precious

hi guys! so this week's mani is seche's precious. i got this from ulta the other day and boy is this polish sucky. it is ridiculously streaky and noticeably so. i do not recommend this one. it's a pretty color and i thought it'd be more sheer than this, but it's still pretty..in the bottle. i painted on two coats and also used formula x for sephora the system. ~Lin-chan ^.~

notd: wet n wild see ya soon

hi guys! i've been slacking on posts lately because of life, but now i'm posting to procrastinate (see my recent update post if you're wondering). haha. anyway, last week's mani was wet n wild's see ya' soon. it lasted a decent length of time and it probably would have been better with three coats, since i accidentally made this one patchy in some places.. but i think if you're actually paying attention while doing your nails, (i was watching an anime at the time.......), you'll probably be ok with two coats. ~Lin-chan ^.~

also used: formula x for sephora the system.

april 2014 popsugar must have box!

hi guys! at the beginning of this month, i heard that there was a coupon code to get a popsugar must have box* for $20. that's right. $20. so i ordered one. now, i didn't sign up for a subscription..more like i "gifted" myself a non-reoccurring box. sadface that it's $40 monthly or slightly discounted for 3-, 6-, & 12-month subscriptions. so until i get a real full time job, it's highly unlikely that i'll order another one in the near future...unless there's an awesome deal like this again.

here's my impressions:
  1. too faced natural eyes palette ($36) -- this would be the reason I decided to get this month's box. uh hello, $36 palette for $20 (plus other stuff)? heck yesssss. i love that too faced is starting to put their palettes into tins now, the cardboard ones were so bulky! the only problem i have with this new packaging is it's magnetic closure, or lack thereof. there are magnets in there, but they're not very strong, so if you plan to travel with this one, i think you should sandwich it closed or wrap a band around it or something. these shadows are awesome too. i love it.
  2. nature box popsugar must have mix (4.5oz, $5) -- for a while now, i've been wanting to subscribe to nature box because it sounds yum. the only thing is that, a decent number of their snacks are readily available at whole foods or trader joe's. when i snack and it's something i like, i will eat the whole bag in one sitting, practically. eventually, when i get a full time job..again..this is something i'll consider subscribing to. occasionally on living social or groupon, they have discounted subscriptions you can buy so that's not too bad either.
    • in this mix: almonds, soybeans, corn, cranberries, rice crackers, and pepitas
    • sadface, i literally finished the whole bag in one sitting, while editing the photos. like within 20 mins of opening the box. ~.~
      • caldrea handsoap in rosewater driftwood (10.8oz, $10.50) -- my bottle was leaking slightly when i opened the package. but it's okie. we just opened a new handsoap the other day, so i haven't gotten to use this one yet. the scent isn't what i thought it was. it's quite light and doesn't smell that rosy to me--which is a good thing. but this is how it is in the bottle, i'm not sure how it'll be when we start using it.
        • update: i'm pleasantly surprised by this soap. it's not terribly strongly fragranced, but it's a very nice balance of floral and woodsy scents. i'm enjoying it!
        • likelihood to repurchase: maybe
      • fresh pastry stand tea towel set ($18 for 2) -- i'm going to leave these folded up for now until we have a house or something. they each have a word written on them: "totally" and "awesome".
      • blue avocado eco shopper bag ($25) -- this is such a great tote bag! since we're going on our trip this summer, it'll be the perfect size to carry our extra stuff or we can use it as like a collapsible beach bag. the pouch itself becomes the bottom of the bag and it collapses nicely if you zip two sides and stuff the rest in. it claims to be wallet-sized, but it's slightly larger than that, but it's still nice and compact enough for traveling.
      • graphic image pocket notes notebook ($20) -- i'm not a huge mini notebooks person. like I kinda was when i was younger, but those were like diaries or something. i think i'll keep it in my purse for ideas or something. i do like that it's blue and the edges are silver. has "run the world" on the cover.
      approximate product value: ~$114.50

50% off your first nature box code: popsugar

swatches: day, classic, fashion; swatched dry.

spend $50+ on giginewyork.com or graphicimage.com and receive a personalized leather iPhone case, code: case
      50% off a popsugar-curated naturebox: naturebox.com/popsugar (while supplies last, until 5/30/14)

      an update

hi guys, long time-no post. again. so much for trying to at least post once weekly...... anyway, things are going a bit crazy lately. i haven't been feeling super well and we're slowly going into crunch time for the semester here. this past week has been spring break..aka work, aka i can earnz more moneys. i've been neglecting a programming project that's due sunday..i mean really, we can't even have easter?! i made the form for it, but i haven't done the background programming. hah.... and then i've got a 12, yes 12, page paper due next saturday for my "internship" class, aka pass/fail, you can has three credit hours for writing a paper and not go to a physical class...that i've also been neglecting.

and my sqeaks passed away yesterday. he would have turned 20 this year... it's going to be real different without greetings, shouting matches, or finding water scattered about the floor by his cage. the past day's been pretty rough, since we got him when i was 5, and it feels like there's a big hole now.

i do have a few posts coming up for you guys sometime soon. my ipsy bag is en route, i ordered a popsugar must have box for $20! and it's en route. and i have a notd post or two to put up, along with an update about the fuse gelnamel polish. aka i tested it twice over the course of two weeks and got the same result. aka, it chipped within 30 hours. sadface, but i'll make something slightly more in-depth than this smidge of a statement. and as usual, i've been buying other stuff like a crazy person. like the hourglass ambient lighting palette. oh yes. the precious. and sadface that i wasn't able to get the summer limited edition color tattoos. hopefully when they get to cvs/walgreens i can snag them. anyway, hope i wasn't to late with getting this up, but i've been wanting to post something for yall and haven't. and things have been sucking lately. later. ~Lin-chan ^.~

      winter 2014 favorites!

hi guys! it's winter favorites time! woohoo! ~Lin-chan ^.~

makeup forever instant brush cleaner -- this stuff is a-freaking-mazing. i've been using it somewhat sparingly because it's so expensive (this little guy's $12!). but it's so goooood. i haven't used this with brushes containing cream products, but my white-tipped brushes containing powder have no noticeable traces of product when i use this on them. and it dries very fast. so good.

opi original nail envy -- can you tell i've been using this? at this rate, i'll need a new one in a couple months, which would be crazy because i don't use nail polishes very fast. (i'm on like my 3rd bottle of opi's black onyx, 2nd opi teal the cows come home, 3rd seche vite -- since high school, eep!) anyway, i feel that this treatment's been helping my nails repair a bit. whenever they start flaking really bad, i put a few coats on and add one or so in the following days. in general, my nails feel stronger while and after using this, but when i'm not using this stuff they're still flaky--making them brittle, so it's like agh!

formula x for sephora: the system -- got this for my birthday, and after a few uses, i'm hooked. as shown in my prism notd post, those were day 4 nails. as i said in my empties post, i for reals ruin my nail polish while it is still wet, basically. much less it chipping within 12 or so hours because i'm not careful. but really, 4 days of perfection with that set, and i didn't put additional topcoat on the days following either. try it out; if you buy the set, make sure to grab a polish color because it's included in the price. ($32)

wet n wild megaliner liquid liner in black -- i bought this a long time ago because emilynoel was talking about it, and..try all the black liners!!! yeah, i recently (march) decided to finally open this up and try it out. and she's right! so good. i haven't tried it with an eyeliner brush (she recommended dipping one into it instead of using the included applicator) but the applicator brush isn't too bad. it is slightly difficult to control because the bristles are a bit long, but  you should be fine if you're comfortable with liquid liner. the pigmentation on this is so thick and dark and it dries so fast that it doesn't transfer on me, which is a big deal for me. it's really good and really cheap.

lypsyl lip balm -- i don't remember how i stumbled upon hollieeatslipstick but she has a video raving about this lip balm. it's only like $2-3, so i figured why not? i hoard all the lip balm already, why not give this one a try. yeah, i'm more than halfway down the tube already--and i got it at the end of december. hahahahaha.

usa pan 9x4x4 pullman loaf pan -- so, ever since we got our kitchenaid mixer, i've been making bread. the recipe i've been using (epicurious oatmeal wheat bread, i skip the egg wash & additional oats at the end, put them in the oven for 30 mins, don't freeze them--it's like a rock afterward), makes two loaves. we got one of these pans as a wedding gift, but if i make two loaves, i have to use another pan (usually a glass or metal loaf pan) and it's just not the same. whenever i make this bread in the regular metal or glass loaf pans, the bread comes out drier and a little bit harder. in the pullman pan, the bread is more moist and soft. it also cooks and browns a lot more evenly in this pan, whereas if you use a glass or regular metal loaf pan, the top will become very brown and the bottom will be a light tan color. granted, in the pullman pan, it's not super brown, but it's evenly golden. haha. i purchased a second pullman loaf pan from bed bath and beyond.
      • random note: i wanted this pan because of a t-dorama, love keeps going. it's sad, i know. hahaha.

      vs.
      trader joe's:
      • mango & cream bars -- these are the yums. they're $3.50/box and they've got 8 teeny bars in them. but it's soooo good. they come in other flavors (coffee?-ish, chocolate, & raspberry cheesecake) but we like this one the most.
      • speculoos crunchy cookie butter -- soooo yums. but if you bake the above bread recipe, DO NOT put it on the bread when it's warm. it will drip and melt into a plasma-like state. for reals, it's a mess. don't do it. if you don't have a trader joe's near you, you can go to walmart and they've got the lotus biscoff cookie butter. we did a side-by-side and we like the trader joe's one better, but they're fairly similar and close in price. both companies make a non-crunchy version.

notd/first impressions: fuse gelnamel kit with sonic blue-m

update: i have made an addendum to this post, which you can view here.

hi guys! so on a recent cvs trip, i ended up walking in with like $5.50 in extra bucks, then made a purchase and got an additional $5. so i decided to spend it on a fuse gelnamel kit, which retails for $25. BUT cvs has it on sale for $20 until mid-april-ish (i think it said). so i got it for ~$11! granted, they only had 3 kits to choose from and had almost every color as singles (which are also on sale for $7ish instead of $10 until mid april-ish)..and they had a larger bottle of the fuse cleanser (i didn't pay attention if it's on sale as well or not), but they had the blue kit so what the heck!

this kit includes a usb-outlet plug, a usb mini cable, the "lamp" unit (which the top can be removed and be turned around to do your toes!), a mini cuticle pusher/orange stick, mini emory board/buffer, some lint-free wipes, and their cleanser (which smells like rubbing alcohol to me..but whatever..), and you pick up whichever box contains the polish color you want.

instructions (see instructions on fuse website): push cuticles back and buff nails. apply cleanser to a lint-free wipe and wipe down nails. do one thin coat of polish on each nail, one at a time. place your finger into the lamp and press the button. the lamp will turn off after 30 seconds. do not cleanse between coats, and cleanse your nail before moving to the next.

overall, the process took me about an hour to do both hands, with two coats on each nail. one coat looked almost like those gelly polishes..if you know what i mean. and i want it opaque. the instruction booklet is pretty good, it gives you the short and sweet version of how to and why you must follow the directions. it also includes some tips and tricks.

the polish itself doesn't apply too bad. but in the bottle, it's kinda gloopy. as you pull the brush out and wipe it along the side, it creates bubbles in the bottle's neck easily. which is kinda annoying because you're trying to remove excess polish from the brush..not add to it.

compared to the coture gel nail kit i received, this process was much easier and nicer since you're not using a full-sized lamp. with the "salon-size" lamp, since you do your whole hand at once and stick it in there, you have to have your hand flat in the lamp. but your thumbs don't sit flat like the rest of your fingers. because of this, polish tends to pool on the edges of your thumb nails while it's taking 90 seconds to cure. with the fuse kit, since only one finger can fit under the lamp at a time, there's no pooling issues--assuming you applied a thin coat and removed the excess polish before using the lamp.

i approve. i'll have to update this post later to let you know if/when it starts chipping. ~Lin-chan ^.~

also used: dappen dish with acetone, mua F3 brush -- both for clean-up before using the lamp

      2014 winter empties!

as promised, here are my winter empties! mini-disclaimer: i typically use up products even if i don't like them, unless 1) they break me out, 2) i hate the scent, or 3) if they cause some other problem. ~Lin-chan ^.~

winter favorites will be up in a few days. one of the items is a snack that needs replacing first! mmmmm! >w<

      january empties
      • eyeko skini mini eyeliner -- i really enjoyed this liner. it didn't transfer after i applied it and it was nice and dark. my only complaint is that the tip got a bit sticky after a while and wouldn't glide very smoothly. even if i tried to blot it off...it was kinda meh. it actually still works, but this tip es no bueno.
        repurchase? nah
      • macadamia natural oil healing oil treatment -- ever since i got the pump bottle, i've been just refilling it with these smaller bottles. i kept getting them with my ulta reward points.
        repurchase? yes, definitely!
      • essence nail art drying drops -- these have been great. i'm so spaztastic whenever i paint my nails. typically i ruin at least one of them while they're still drying, so this works wonders for me. these are about $3 compared to $12 for opi's. purchased at ulta.
        repurchase? yes
      • freeman hydrating paper mask -- while i really like how my face felt after using this mask, i'm not sure if i'll buy any of their paper masks anymore. unless i cut the eye holes bigger or something, idk. but the eye holes aren't placed in a one-size-fits-all fashion. they are cut into perfect circles. the circles are so small these sheet masks cover the outer 1/3 of both of my eyes. and that's extremely annoying if this mask is on my face for 10 minutes and i want to do stuff but i can't see.... >.>
        repurchase? undecided
      • white barn leaves candle -- while i do love this scent. i'm not sure if i'll buy bbw candles anymore because cbv candles are so much cheaper per ounce and she has all her gazillion scents year-round as opposed to this seasonal candle.
        repurchase? undecided
      • simple cleansing facial wipes -- i love these wipes. they get the majority of my makeup off. eye makeup takes a little bit more work, but these wipes don't irritate my face or eyes.
        repurchase? yes!
      • sephora daily makeup brush cleaner -- while this brush cleaner is great for on the go spot cleaning, it doesn't dry fast enough to use the same brush again. but it is fairly inexpensive if i'm traveling or something and need a quick cleaning.
        repurchase? probably
      february empties
      • briogeo don't despair, repair hair mask -- this came in my january ipsy bag. while it was a nice sized sample and i got about 4 uses out of it...it was not, in my opinion an effective hair mask. it felt like i was using any ordinary daily conditioner. and for the price ($26/5oz jar), hell no, i'm not repurchasing this stuff. as i said in my janurary hauls post, you can get a 20oz bottle of an ion hair mask at sally's for like $8. and it actually is a moisturizing hair mask. don't waste your time with this one.
        repurchase? no
      • simple cleansing facial wipes
      • simple oil balancing facial wipes -- i liked the scent of these...i can't place it though. it reminds me of something.... i'm not sure about how effective they are at oil balancing, but maybe? or maybe they have some toner in them...?? i have no idea. (the scent could possibly be their toner, which is only ok..)
        repurchase? maybe
      • black radiance face primer -- i think it's mostly that i'm used to and prefer silicone-based primers that i didn't really like this one, but i do feel like it was effective. my makeup was never patchy and stayed on for at least 12-15 hours when i used this.
        repurchase? nah
      • vitafusion women's gummy-vites -- these are so good. if you are/were a fan of fruit snacks--the not totally artificial tasting ones--you'll love these. that said, make sure you only consume the daily dose. hahaha.
        repurchase? yes
      • clinique ddm gel -- ever since i moved to college i've used this stuff almost religiously. when my mom got me started with a clinique regimen, she got me the lotion--which maybe was the only thing out at the time? and i wasn't huge on the scent of the lotion. yes yes yes, hypoallergenic and unscented-ish. but no, i don't like the smell of it. probably my second year of college or so, i got a sample of the gel and i've been using it almost religiously since.
        repurchase? yes

      march empties
      • urban decay perversion eye pencil (travel size) -- you likey my little nub of a pencil? lol. it's too hard to grip in the pencil sharpener anymore >.<
repurchase? not for now, i have back-ups
      • psssssst dry shampoo mini -- while it does go on white if you apply too much in one area, the white color disappears quickly. has a fresh scent and my hair feels great and slightly more volumized
repurchase? yes, unless i like a different one more (i have a few others i'm trying out right now)
      • clinique butter shine lipstick in delovely -- this actually isn't a recent empty. it's been at the base of the bullet for a long time now; i finally decided to scoop out the remains into a z palette pan.  i have another that i opened after this one got to the base to keep in my bag and at home, i was using a lip brush to get to the remains. look at how much was still in there! that pan is nearly filled to the brim!
repurchase? probably, but not for now
      • another pack of simple wipes!
      • soap & glory flake away body polish -- i really enjoy this scrub (especially the scent!), but it's kinda expensive and the minis only last me about two uses..... >.> [pretty sure i bought this so i could get a gift with $25 sephora purchase type deal. ^^; ]
        repurchase? probably not
      • body shop olive body butter -- years ago, when i originally saw this, i was like how can olives smell good as a fragrance..? i was wrong, and this is amazing.
        repurchase? yes, already have!
      • [not pictured] l'occitane amande shower oil -- i got this because the concept sounded so bizarre. it's body wash in oil form. i think i was most surprised that it foamed a bit, and didn't feel like i was using an oil. it felt more like a very thin body wash. the scent was nice and light. my issue with this is that it's pretty expensive and it doesn't feel as effective as i would like.
        repurchase? probably not
      • [not pictured] tree hut sugar scrub in tropical mango -- i love this scrub, it's relatively inexpensive, effective, and smells nice!
        repurchase? yes
      • [not pictured] tone body wash in soothing (oatmeal & shea butter) -- i really liked this..a lot. after my bbw stash (which, i haven't bought any in like 3+ years) is gone, i'm sticking to this brand or maybe the caress body washes. i mean, tone is like $3 for a 18oz bottle. come on!
        repurchase? yes!
      • [not pictured] secret clinical strength deodorant (light & fresh scent) -- i've tried so many different deodorants and this one is among the best for louisiana heat and humidity. i've tried natural ones, ..crystal ones..., gel, nearly everything, but this one works best for me. i generally use these in the non-winter months because it's like 80° here for like 9 months of the year, and in the winter months, i'll generally use a non-clinical antiperspirant.
        repurchase? yes
