diy nail polish ornaments, part dos.

hi guys! i decided to actually make polish ornaments as xmas gifts this year. using the same procedure & materials from last time. ....except i still couldn't find a cardboard egg carton...so i used a styrofoam one again... the ornaments i bought this time were smaller than the ones i used last time, and i got 13 of them. (approximate total cost this time: $25-30)
polishes used:
3x wet n wild shine black creme (used as a dark base for 5 of the ornaments)
4x wet n wild shine lavender pearlescent (pink) (3 ornaments)
2x wet n wild shine eggplant frost (purple) (2 ornaments)
2x sinful colors cream pink (2 ornaments)
1x pure ice heart breaker (blueish) (3 ornaments)
1x pure ice spitfire (reddish-pink) (1 ornament)
1x pure ice i'll behave (green) (1 ornament)
1x sally hansen xtreme wear red carpet (1 ornament)

          materials needed:
          newspaper
          cardboard egg carton--not styrofoam!!!!
          polishes of your choice
          nail polish thinner if needed
[non-acetone] nail polish remover if needed for clean up
          clear glass or plastic ornaments
decorative ribbon, stickers, or markers if desired
          ornament hanging hooks

so, pop the tops off the ornaments, shake up your polish bottle, and pour some nail polish inside the ornament. be careful not to drop the nail polish balls inside. tilt the ornament to coat the inside and add more polish as needed. place them into a *cardboard* egg carton, open-side down so the polish can drip out. so as you can see, this is why you shouldn't use a styrofoam container. nail polish eats styrofoam. make sure you do this in a well-ventilated room and allow it to dry overnight...also in a well-ventilated room.

i poured some acetone into the empty polish bottles and "cleaned" them out. i think i'm going to save them and experiment with something later. i'll post about it if it's successful. =P

here's how they came out!

these were all double or triple coated. the spitfire & i'll behave ones were double coated with glitter and then a coat of black. the heartbreaker ones were single coated with a single coat of black. i don't advise using black as a "base" for spitfire, maybe use a pink instead.

T & A: i have a feeling you guys already kinda know which ones you'll be getting. =P ~Lin-chan ^.~
